First Class Cake

Posted on January 29, 2015

After 4 rounds of the staff bake off it was time for the children to show their talents.  After a chilly walk to the Community Bakery a small group of the Dragonfly children settled down to the first of their weekly baking classes.  The bakery have worked with us to create a course of cookery classes which will run over 8 weeks, the aim is to help the children build up their skills and link the ingredients they use with the world around them.

Today it was down to the chicken shed to collect the eggs, looking at the wheat that created the flour, the raspberries that made the jam and introducing the vocabulary used in baking.

At the end of it all a very proud bunch of children arrived back at Incy's with a delicious looking Victoria Sponge...

If your child didn't go in this group, don't worry we will be running the classes again for other groups during the year. At the end of the course and with the help of the bakery we will be producing our own cookbook which we will enjoy sharing with families too.
