Light & Dark

Posted on November 20, 2015

As the clocks change and we all notice the darker evenings the children in the Dragonfly Room are investigating Light. There are of course a number of seasonal celebrations that prompt discussion about light and dark.  For some children (and adults) the dark can make them feel fearful and we hope that the older children will have the opportunity to talk about their emotions, while the arrival of our dark den has allowed the children to be enveloped in darkness and play around with different sources of light.

It then seemed very apt to receive an invitation from Susie Drake, Head of Asygarth Pre-Prep School to visit the school and join other local children and teachers to watch a performance of 'The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark'.  Delighted to work alongside them we have of course accepted and our older pre-school children will be travelling up there on Monday 23rd November (a big thank you to parents for returning the permission slips so promptly).  The children at Incy Wincy's have shared the story ahead of seeing the performance by Blunderbus Children's Theatre, if you would like to learn a little more please follow this link at http://blunderbus.co.uk/owl-who-was-afraid-of-the-... For any parents not familiar with the story written by Jill Tomlinson please let your Key Person know, we have added a number of copies to our Book Borrowers Baskets for you to take home and read together.

It seems that the interest in Light & Dark coupled with the theatre production is supporting the children's new fascination with Owls and other Nocturnal animals, it will be interesting to see where this developing interest takes us next.  We will share the children's thoughts from the theatre trip with parents, I am sure it will be as it said in our invitation a hoot!
