Fingers Crossed!

Laura Whiting from the Children's Food Trust was welcomed into Incy Wincy's this week. Laura visited us to assess not only the quality of our food but also our mealtimes, community links and find out more about the learning opportunities we create.  All of this will help the Trust decide whether we have met all the criteria of their Outstanding Food Award. Laura spent time observing our snack & mealtimes, looking at our kitchen garden and talking to staff (and children of course) about the work we have done.

The commitment to improving the quality of food was made when the nursery was taken over in 2013.  This weeks visit is the final step in a process that began almost over 2 years ago with our previous manager Rachel, since she left us we have continued to develop using the Children's Food Trust guidelines as a framework to identify our next steps.  Food is now such a central part of our day to day nursery life that we sometimes forget all the things we involve the children in and how much they absorb from this.

Now we just need to wait a little longer (with our fingers crossed) to hear whether we have achieved the award, or not.  We guarantee whichever way it goes that as soon as we know you will know.  In the meantime there is work to be done as we put together healthy lunchbox ideas to share with families in the our Pre-School.
